Cochin to Ramassery for breakfast (idly) and Attappadi visit
Kerala tour packages are not only about famous destinations—they’re also about discovering unique local experiences. This one-day journey from Cochin to Ramassery for breakfast and an exploration of Attappadi is a perfect example of an offbeat Kerala travel experience ideal for families.
Cochin to Ramassery – A Delicious Start to Your Kerala Tour Package
It was a Saturday, and we decided on a spontaneous family trip with kids. Our inspiration was the legendary Ramassery Idly, often called the King of Idlis, available only in Ramassery village near Palakkad.

We started from Aluva at 8 AM and reached Ramassery by 10:30 AM after a comfortable 2.5-hour drive—making it an easy addition to customizable Kerala tour packages.
Ramassery Idly Experience
The small, traditional eatery welcomed us with warmth and local hospitality. The idlis were soft, fluffy, and served with:
- Sambar
- Coconut chutney
- Chutney powder
- A special homemade chutney (the highlight!)
💰 Price: ₹8 per idly (including curries)

The idly preparation continues till noon, with bulk orders being a daily routine. Though the recipe remains a secret, the love and effort behind every plate are evident.

From Ramassery to Kanjippuzha Dam
After breakfast, we headed towards Kanjippuzha Dam, a calm spot perfect for families traveling through Kerala tour packages.
Kanjippuzha Dam Highlights
- Children’s park
- Pedal boating (₹12 per child / 5 mins)
- Water balloon play (₹120 per child / 5 mins)
The friendly staff guided us well, making this a relaxed mid-day stop.
Attappadi – Exploring Kerala’s Tribal Landscape
From Kanjippuzha, we continued towards Attappadi, a region known for its raw landscapes and tribal culture. Though the roads were uneven, the scenic forest drive made it worthwhile.

At Mukkali, we reached a junction:
- Left ➝ Silent Valley National Park
- Right ➝ Anakkatti & Coimbatore
We spotted monkeys and peacocks along the way—an unforgettable wildlife moment included in many eco-focused Kerala tour packages.
Lunch Stop – Bamboo Restaurant, Mukkali
A small family-run restaurant served us delicious:
- Fish curry & fry
- Chicken fry
Simple food, warm service, and authentic flavors made it memorable.
Narasimukku View Point – Hidden Gem of Attappadi
From Mukkali, a scenic drive via Agali took us to Narasimukku View Point. Though the road condition was average, the cool breeze and panoramic views made it worth the effort.

This viewpoint is often used for movie shoots and is ideal for nature lovers exploring offbeat Kerala tour packages.
Return via Anakkatti – Coimbatore – Cochin
By 5 PM, we headed towards Anakkatti Check Post and reached Coimbatore by 8 PM. After dinner at Adyar Ananda Bhavan, we started our return journey and reached Cochin by midnight.
